The most popular video game blue hedgehog takes over movie theaters with Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), one of the big box office surprises of 2020.

The film was directed by Jeff Fowler and made with a combination of computer-animated motion capture and real actors. Ben Schwartz voices Sonic, a charismatic blue hedgehog with super speed who has lived in hiding for 10 years in Green Hills, Montana. There, he will meet Sheriff Tom Wachowski, played by James Marsden, who will help him escape the clutches of the fearsome Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey.

Sonic the Hedgehog invites us to be part of an adventure where fun is acquired along the way and not in the finish line. Rather than focusing on telling a fresh story, the film invites us to spend time with Sonic, laugh with his jokes and be enchanted by his great personality, fulfilling the dream of millions of SEGA fans around the world as well as catching new followers in the blue hedgehog universe. Sonic the Hedgehog is a fun proposal and, although predictable, it is a great movie to enjoy with kids.

Although its premiere was originally planned for November 2019, the overwhelming public discontent with Sonic‘s first design made the director, Jeff Fowler, delay it until February 2020. Now, with a Sonic more faithful to that of the video games, the film has grossed $295 million worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing video game film in the United States and the second highest-grossing film of 2020 to date.
